Statement from Rep. Durkin on Pensions

“The legislature has to get pension reform done soon, we cannot wait until November. We need to return to Springfield and find a viable solution for everyone immediately. If we continue to do nothing the state’s credit rating will continue to drop and we will risk diminishing the state finances even further. We are at a tipping point.

Many of those involved including the House Republicans have presented a proposal to reform the pensions, but the largest state holder--organized labor has yet to present a proposal that keeps the pensions viable and doesn’t simply push the burden onto the taxpayer. So far members of organized labor have only provided us with an on slat of phone calls, emails, and letters saying do nothing. We can no longer do nothing, we must act now to help our state’s fiscal crisis. ”
