In the summer of 2020, rioting mobs defaced and attempted to destroy monuments and statues in the city of Chicago. As a result, Mayor Lori Lightfoot ordered several of the city’s monuments and statues placed into storage for safekeeping. The Chicago Monuments Project is now taking input from the public on 41 city monuments and statues as part of a sweeping review, including those commemorating our beloved Illinoisan and 16th US President, Abraham Lincoln.
