“We fully anticipated Senate Bill 1 to be legally challenged, so the fourth lawsuit filed today by the We Are One Coalition comes as no surprise.  We also anticipate more lawsuits are on the way.  

It’s my hope that the courts will find an expeditious path towards having this heard in the Circuit Courts, and ultimately, the Illinois Supreme Court so that we can bring resolution to this issue. 

Senate Bill 1 is fair to both the taxpayers and employees of the state.  It contains the reforms necessary to improve the fiscal well-being of our state and the pension systems.  We have laid down a proper foundation to withstand scrutiny.  It is now in the hands of the courts.  We need to let the process play out.”
