Let Income Tax Increase Expire - Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin

Let Income Tax Increase Expire

In a lame duck session in 2011, the Democrat-controlled legislature imposed a 67% income tax increase on every working person in the state of Illinois. They promised it was temporary and set it to rollback on January 1, 2015. Now they want to make that tax increase permanent.

We don't think it's right. If you agree, please add your name to the petition below and take the added step of sharing it with your friends.

Let's make them keep their promise.

For much too long the General Assembly and the governors of this state have taken from the people what they want bleeding industry and industrious persons dry to the point they are leaving a sinking ship. The lottery was to fund the schools, the “temporary” tax increase was to fund the teacher pension problem. Neither came to pass. At the same time we feel the white hot heat of the federal government’s role in forcing more taxation and more business closings in the name of climate change and social change. The climate in the General Assembly must change or more people and businesses will leave the state which will be no good for anyone.

IL government is too big, too wasteful, and too corrupt. Taxes are too high — and the special deal tax credits only seem to fuel more political favors. Revise the IL code — and we need to get rid of Madigan’s stranglehold on IL government!

Puh-lease. Anyone who didn’t see how disingenuous Quinn’s promise was from the get-go is a complete moron. The plan went like this 1) get by-in by calling the tax “temporary” 2) wait for tax payers to get used to being taxed at that new rate and 3) make the “temporary” rate permanent with minimal outrage because its already become the new norm. Sound about right Illinois Democrats? Hopefully there are enough intelligent people in Illinois to stand up, say “no” and not allow themselves to get played.

As someone who believe in individual responsibility, minimum government, maximum governance, charity, and free enterprise I feel that the very fundamentals of my conservative beliefs are being challenged in IL. I am not against paying property taxes or Income tax, but I hate to see my taxes rise when my property value goes down and when my income is stagnant at best.

I want to happily pay taxes seeing my property value go up. I want my income tax $$ to be spent responsibly and visualize wise spending in education, infrastructure et al.,

Create jobs, create opportunities, stop businesses moving out of IL, fix the education system and let my income and property values rise so that I can pay taxes without cribbing. When all of the above are in shambles it is best to let the income tax increase expire so that struggling families at-least will have the consolation of having extra money in their pockets which they can spend wisely
