Let Income Tax Increase Expire - Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin

Let Income Tax Increase Expire

In a lame duck session in 2011, the Democrat-controlled legislature imposed a 67% income tax increase on every working person in the state of Illinois. They promised it was temporary and set it to rollback on January 1, 2015. Now they want to make that tax increase permanent.

We don't think it's right. If you agree, please add your name to the petition below and take the added step of sharing it with your friends.

Let's make them keep their promise.

    I’m tired of the continued reckless spending of our hard earned money. The corruption in the state of Illinois Government is out of control. I will be retiring in a few years and I can guarantee you that I will be leaving!

    The dozens of spending bills the majority party approved amounts to at least $37.3 Billion in total spending – a staggering $2.8 Billion MORE than the number that was agreed to in March. By voting on all this extra spending but NOT voting on what the revenue will be to pay for it, Democrats are virtually guaranteeing that the “temporary” income tax increase will be made PERMANENT.

    It is clearly unconstitutional for Democrats to pass a budget that is not balanced. We need to restore accountability to our budget process.

    Speaker of the House Michael Madigan’s Quote :

    “There is a concept in America that we all strive to live under which is

    called Responsibility, Responsibility for our actions. And when one person

    can spend money and send the bill to somebody else, that’s not Responsible;

    that’s un-American” – Speaker of the House Michael Madigan".

    And that is precisely what Madigan and all the General Assemblies he has worked

    for have done throughout the years. It is also called a callous exploitation

    of power and resources when forcing middle-class workers to pay the state’s
