Let Income Tax Increase Expire - Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin

Let Income Tax Increase Expire

In a lame duck session in 2011, the Democrat-controlled legislature imposed a 67% income tax increase on every working person in the state of Illinois. They promised it was temporary and set it to rollback on January 1, 2015. Now they want to make that tax increase permanent.

We don't think it's right. If you agree, please add your name to the petition below and take the added step of sharing it with your friends.

Let's make them keep their promise.

    Jil,

Keep fighting to keep the tax temporary. I know Governor Quinn and the democrats are increasing spending just to justify making the income tax permanent. If they succeed, many more people will leave Illinois because the democrats in Springfield keep spending more and more money. Our revenue in Illinois is adequate; the General Assembly needs to live within its means as individual citizens must do.

I have to live with the budget I can afford. Illinois needs to do the same. If I need to replce a car or a furnace or if I want something that I don’t have the money for then I adjust priorities or do without. I don’t go to my employer and ask for a raise and threaten them with the loss of something if I don’t get it. The threats in the media to cut education and other critical areas really don’t mean much, it’s already being done when there are other areas of special intrest that could be cut.
