Graduated Tax Petition - Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin

Graduated Tax Petition

We, the undersigned, oppose the Democrats' Graduated Income Tax proposal. Under current Illinois law, the individual income tax rate will be 3.75 percent in 2015. Under a new plan, however, a higher 4 percent rate kicks in for people earning just $18,000. That income tax rate targets Illinois’ working class.

The graduated tax is not a tax on the rich. It raises taxes on anyone making over $18,000 and the burden will be on the lower and middle class wage earners. Besides, the Illinois state government didn’t use the 67% increase in income taxes to repay bills, as promised, but simply increased their spending and are using the graduated tax to obtain more revenue to keep increasing spending.

No more taxes. Try spending money wisely for a change. I am actually looking to move out of this pathetic poorly run state because of all the taxes.

Graduated taxes encourage those in the lower brackets to vote to have “someone else” pay the freight. I know I would.

Lower information voters need to be part of the system so they take an interest in how their votes matter.

I know teachers who are in favor so they get to keep their pension system saying they faithfully paid in all these years. Well I paid my part also. The teachers union needs to campaign against those who took the money out of the system.

Leave the working class alone, let us better ourselves and not pay for those who lack ambition to do the same. Less big-government please.
