Durkin, Curran Host Free Senior Health Fair

State Representative Jim Durkin is partnering with State Senator John Curran to host a free Senior Health Fair, bringing together over 60 vendors to provide screenings and helpful information for area seniors.

"Being able to provide this service is just a small way we can empower, inform and care for our senior citizen community," said Sen. Curran. "I'm looking forward to partnering with Leader Durkin to bring together a number of service providers, resources and screenings into one place for senior citizens to utilize, explore and pursue."

The Senior Health Fair will take place on August 29 at the CORE Fitness Center located in Lemont at 16050 West 127th Street from nine a.m. to noon. Free screenings will be available for attendees, including blood pressure, blood sugar, hearing, pneumonia and stress screenings. Flu shots will be free to those with Medicare B, and there will be a medication disposal box onsite to collect your unused and outdated prescription drugs from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

“This is a great option for seniors in our communities to take care of important tasks for their health and safety all in one easy location,” Durkin said. “In addition to taking advantage of essential services, health care professionals can provide updates from the medical field and answer important questions.”

No registration or entrance fee is required. Attendees are encouraged to stop by, enjoy free refreshments and explore the wide array of information and services available for area seniors. Participating vendors will be offering information on a number of topics such as nutrition, assisted living, eye health, utility savings and information on the I-Cash program.

The Lemont Lions Club will also be collecting eye glasses, hearing aids, cell phones and keys. Anyone with additional questions can contact Senator Curran's District Office at (630) 796-2623 or Representative Durkin's office at (630) 325-2028.
