Mathias: Alternative Fuel Rebates Signed into Law
July 27, 2010
Springfield…Legislation that makes hybrid vehicles eligible for a conversion cost rebate under the Alternate Fuels Rebate Program has now been signed into law. The legislation introduced and sponsored by State Representative Sid Mathias (R-Buffalo Grove) assists those individuals who own hybrid vehicles and want to convert them to use E-85 fuel rather than gasoline.
“We must do our part to promote green technology and alternative fuel sources in Illinois,” said Mathias. “This law will give those who own hybrid vehicles additional incentive to utilize E-85, a fuel source created right here in the Midwest.”
Under the Alternate Fuels Rebate Program, a conversion cost rebate may be issued to an owner or his or her designee in order to reduce the cost of converting a conventional vehicle to an alternate fuel vehicle. Conversion of a conventional vehicle to alternate fuel capability must take place in Illinois for the owner to be eligible for the conversion cost rebate. An applicant for a conversion cost rebate in the Alternate Fuels Rebate Program is eligible to receive a rebate of 80% of the cost of converting a conventional vehicle to an alternate fuel vehicle, up to $4,000.
The law is effective immediately.
